Literacy and Numeracy work will be uploaded here on a daily basis for those in my teaching sets and this work is intended to last the whole morning.  

Spellings, phonics or handwriting - 15 minutes

Reading - 30 minutes

Grammar - 15 minutes

Main Literacy / Writing - 45 minutes

Times Tables - 15 minutes

Main Numeracy Lesson - 60 minutes

In today's session, those pupils who are in school will work together with myself to model write a setting description for The Dream Giver.  The pupils will then 'magpie' ideas to use in their own writing tomorrow.  We will use the nouns and adjectives work we completed on Friday 08/01/21 to help us.  We will also try to incorporate coordinating and subordinating conjunctions like the ones we learnt about on Monday 11/01/21 and Tuesday 12/01/21.  At the end of the session in school I will upload the work we completed.  Your child needs to read through this looking for the adjectives, nouns, coordinating and subordinating conjunctions we have used.  They can then try to improve on what we have done. Tomorrow the pupils will write their own scene settings.

For todays lesson the children need to write their own scene setting for the beginning of 'The Dream Giver'.  To help them they will need:

The vocabulary ninja sheet

Their scene setting work on nouns and adjectives

Knowledge from the lessons on coordinating and subordinating conjunctions

The modelled writing from yesterday's lesson.

Children are expected to write a detailed  paragraph.

Main Literacy Lesson - Whole Group

Today the children need to edit the work they produced yesterday, describing the scene from The Dream Giver.  They need to ensure:

That their writing makes sense

That they check and correct their spellings

That they have used capital letters and full stops

They have checked for adjectives to describe their nouns and up-level those adjectives using the vocabulary ninja sheet

They they have included coordinating conjunctions (for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so) to link two sentences

They have included a subordinating conjunction (if, since, as, when, although, while, after, before, until, because) to link two clauses together 

When editing, children make their corrections in a different colour pen then write their piece out again in it's final form.
